| "Remix" isn't the right word for this collection of songs. Reinvention is more apropos.
Mia Doi Todd has hand picked some of her favorite remixes from the CD release of La Ninja to be released on this limited 12", The Pink Sun E.P. La Ninja used Mia's most recent release Manzanita ("both timeless and fresh." - LA Times) as a starting point, the artists working on La Ninja and The Pink Sun have provided a new and exciting context for Mia's original tracks. The mixes Mia has chosen include Nobody's Bollywood inspired "What If We Do," Adventure Time's rendition of "Amor," a ballad embellished with lush orchestral maneuvers and Dntel's interpretation of "Deep at Sea" with a pulsating electronic backdrop all on Side A. On Side B we have two interpretations of "My Room Is White" by Reminder and Flying Lotus. Reminder contributes a glitchy, minimalist excursion, emphasizing Mia's gorgeous lyrics and vocals. Whereas Flying Lotus version is perhaps the most complete reinvention of the original, as he turns the track upside down, transforming the original's subtle guitar/vocal combo into a head-nodding hip-hop jam. The side closes out with Future Pigeon's dub-man, Tom Chasteen with his dubbed out version of "Casanova" that is previously unreleased. |
