musician Calamalka (aka Michael
Campitelli) is focused on the
heavyweight. Drawing inspiration
from the intense musical
messages of Bad Brains, Public
Enemy, and King Tubby he forges
dub glowing with rebel fire. Each
beat bangs with a thundering
crack and thump. Volcanic bass
pushes cryptic incantations
through the murky surface while
mysterious melodies snake like
shadows through shattered skies. Calamalka's earthshaking rumble vibrates with inspiration. His riddims ride on mesmerizing tones that magnetize ears. Hypnotic bass swells cast deep spells. With such compelling power it is no surprise that Calamalka has entered the cinematic scene. His compositions recently took center stage in a celebrated feature film entitled On the Corner. While adding extra impact to moving pictures, Calamalka need not rely on the pairing. All celluloid aside his music shines through.
